Planning Orders at the Raw Dog Ranch

Planning Your Order

I restock on a monthly basis so the first thing I do is figure out what how much of what I currently need for the month.  I call my supplier to see if they have anything new that the dogs might like and check prices and availability.  I try to get variety in their diets but it doesn’t always work out that way.

So, I sit down and calculate the monthly totals.  Since most of the items I get come by the case, I round up to the nearest case-weight when figuring how much I'll need.  For example, a typical monthly order consists of the following:

120 lbs of RMBs - I use mostly chicken leg quarters but will also get backs, turkey necks, lamb neck bones, whole fish and more)

One case of beef heart - a case of beef heart is 60 lbs.  I need about 80 lbs of muscle meat each month so we pick up some ground turkey (comes in one lb tubes) at our local Aldi's as well

One case of beef liver - this usually comes in 30 lb cases and I only go through about 10 lbs each month so one case will last us about 3 months

We also pick up about 20 cans of Mackerel (Walmart has the best prices near us) and I get the raw green tripe from a local Aunt Jeni's distributor.

Our chickens are currently laying almost a dozen eggs a day so we are set in that area!

And since we raise meat rabbits we have those as well for the dogs.  And any ducks that don't make the cut (I raise them for showing).

We usually go down to our supplier on a Saturday morning and pick up the order.  That gives my husband and I the whole day to process the supplies.  And since we recently purchased a trailer we can pick up supplies for the fellow raw feeders in our area as well!
